Best Outdoor Hangout
Salty Mike's. I’ve been meeting my friends there almost every Friday after work for as long as I’ve lived here. Dive bar on the water, best view in town, pool tables, cold Natty lights/PBRs, maybe some fried shrimp. This is the one
Cheap Eats
Moe's Crosstown. Moe’s Crosstown is still the best place to grab cheap burgers/wings, cold beer, and watch sports
Favorite Restaurant
Renzo. When my parents are here we like to go to this Italian joint called Renzo. It is just as good as the bigger-name restaurants but it avoids the tourist traffic. When friends visit from out of town we usually play the hits such as Leon's and Lewis BBQ.
Where to go for Coffee or Breakfast
City Lights Coffee. City Lights Coffee had the best strong coffee and all of the staff/regulars were interesting people to talk to. They closed the original location, but I've heard they are set to open again later this year on the East Side.
Queen Street Grocery, Mozzo, and new kid on the block Holey City Bagels are all in my breakfast sandwich rotation. Also have to mention Marina Variety Store
For Drinks
The Royal American. The Royal American has cheap drinks, live music, good views, and great bar food. Shout out to Angelina my favorite bartender in town
Activity in Town
Out on the Water. Get out on the boat or hang on the beach. Cannot go wrong if you are outside with friends
Local Business or Brand
Home Spice. I'm a big fan of all of the products as well as the creator. Boss lady lives elsewhere now, but this will always be an OG Charleston brand
Insiders Tip
The Outsiders. Exercise group called The Outsiders that meets at different locations 3x per week. Workout location is announced the night before via group text, but I heard they went corporate and make announcements on Instagram now too (outsiders.charleston). I've become friends with a lot of eclectic Charleston characters through this that I would have never known otherwise
Honorable Mention
Bowen's Island. Bowen's Island for oyster roasts, Home Team for college football Saturdays, Bluefield Shooting Club in nearby Round O, The Windjammer for concerts on the beach, etc.
Local Plug
Be A Mentor. Best local non-profit and one where Lucius spends time volunteering.
